Some Life Lessons that I have learnt so far!
Lessons learned so far in life
Life is much more than growing up with family, attaining a college degree, getting married, having kids and then die. I am baffled by seeing the way of living of some people especially in our country that still follow this linear timeline foretold by their ancestors and just following the usual status quo blindly.
Millennials like me have gradually gotten smarter after hitting a certain age when maturity strikes just like puberty in your early teens! They are living more frugally than their baby boomer counterparts, investing more and putting off marriage way too early to focus on their careers and building an actual life for themselves.
We really need to straighten our priorities and honestly ask ourselves these questions:
Are we really ready to survive in this economy which was already on the ventilator before the Covid-19 pandemic and are we ready for the post-pandemic world with the most likely worst recession since the global financial crisis of 2008?
Is our life legacy, leaving behind a bunch of kids and some property in their names?
Do we still need to marry our daughters early and not give them any chance to make their own lives and careers?
The last one really hits the home in the context of our patriarchal society with its many flaws, banal and time-worn mindset. All this in a country with an estimated GDP of -1.5% in 2020 according to
The reason for all this comes down to the simple fact of our fallacious mindset since partition, rooted in our minds through our clerics and mullahs that are still against educating our females and even if they support that, they oppose them working equally with their male counterparts. This becomes evident when news like the cancellation of child marriage bill in the National Assembly hit the screens last year (source:
Nevertheless, I digress from the main point of this article, which is to pay heed to the following life lessons inspired from a popular space on Quora.
1. Stop posting everything on social media.
2. Most people don't love you, it's just a symbiotic relationship.
3. Don't force ANYTHING -relationships, conversations, meeting up with someone, etc.
4. Get up every day and find your drive then use it to propel yourself through the day.
5. Money does NOT give you true happiness; just an illusion of it.
6. Most people don't even know what true happiness feels like.
7. Don't outgrow your youth. Live it, at the right time.
8. You can sacrifice a lot for someone you really care about, but they'll still leave you.
9. Pilot your emotions most of the time. Don't let them control you unless need be.
10. Whether you believe in science, religion or nothing at all, death is NOT the end.
11. Invest in good memories whether you have money or not. You'll need them as you grow old.
12. It's all in the mind. Make your willpower strong and you will achieve your goal eventually
13. Love yourself, but don't forget to reciprocate it to others. Treat everyone with kindness even when they are mean to you. Kindness is strength, not weakness.
14. Do good to others and expect nothing in return. It's not a trade.
15. Keep your heart, mind and body clean. Always avoid negative energy.
16. People are temporary, Career is permanent.
17. Eat healthy - veggies, fruits, yams, etc.
18. Exercise often. Go for a run or hit the gym.
19. In the end, you will realize it's all meaningless. Our endless endeavors to get rich, getting worked up, wanting attention, life and the likes. As we say in our language, " Yote ni vanity."
20. Do not chase anyone who wouldn't do the same for you.
21. Just because she/he looks at you, doesn't mean they LIKE you in that way.
22. That girl/boy that dresses funny looks funny and talks funny...that "uncool person" in school that nobody wants to hang out or be seen with, ....be careful coz you never know when you might need them later in life or you might even end up working for them if they were the class geeks or nerds.
23. You will most likely die before achieving your full potential so LIVE IT UP!
24. We often take our loved ones for granted.
25. We keep chasing wealth, women and buy luxury commodities that we don't really need, to impress our so-called friends and people that we don't actually like just to inflate our ego.
I leave you with the following thought:
